Art and design is not just
a subject to learn, but an activity that you can practice:
with your hands, your eyes, your whole personality.
(Quentin Blake, Children's
Laureate)
At Our Lady's we place a
great deal of emphasis on art and design, which is reflected
in the colourful displays
throughout the school.
From an early age, children are
given the opportunity to draw , paint and sketch, using
different mediums. They study the great artists and
often learn from their techniques.
In key stage one, children
explore colour, shape and space and patterns and texture
and learn to express their ideas through these. In key
stage two, children build on these skills and increase
their awareness of art and design in different cultures.
They become more confident in using visual and tactile
materials to communicate what they see, feel and think.
Art is organised on a two
year rolling programme at Our Lady's and is linked with
other areas of the curriculum.
