'To see young people growing
in physical skills, self-confidence and self-worth is
a truly enriching experience. Nowhere in school is it
more visible in P.E.' (Duncan Goodhew, Swimmer)
Physical Education is an
essential part of a broad and balanced curriculum and
it is vital that this should be a positive and enjoyable
experience for all pupils. All children are taught the
basic skills of physical education and fitness. Physical
Education should stimulate a variety of important qualities,
within the individual child; these include competence,
confidence and Physical Development.
In Key Stage One the children
are taught to enhance these through dance, gymnastics
and games. Throughout these activities children will
be encouraged to evaluate and improve performance with
connections made between developing, selecting and applying
skills. At swimming and athletics. Children will have
the opportunity to work in a variety of ways through
directed, exploratory and improvised activities. Children
will work in groups, pairs and as individuals and use
appropriate language.
At Our Lady's we do ask for
all children to change into suitable clothing for P.E.
it comprises of a 'T' shirt, available from Justin's,
which should be worn with navy shorts. Suitable footwear
should be worn, i.e. trainers for outdoor P.E. and plimsolls
for use in the hall.
As part of the National Curriculum,
children are required to learn to swim 25m by the end
of Key Stage Two. We are able to use the facilities
of Yarborough Leisure Centre and all children in Y2,
Y3, Y4, Y5 and Y6 receive regular swimming lessons.
