The outcome of religious
education is religiously literate young people who have
the knowledge and understanding and skills - appropriate
to their age and capacity - to think spiritually, ethically
and theologically, and who are aware of the demands
of religious commitment in everyday life.
(Religious Education
Curriculum Directory for Catholic Schools)
Our Lady of Lincoln Catholic
Primary School places great emphasis on religious Education,
considering it as the core of the core subjects, central
to all that is taught. Vocabulary is central to the
teaching of RE and we seek to enable the children to
express their thoughts in a way that deepens their knowledge
and understanding . We make every effort to link RE
with other areas of the curriculum, especially Literacy,
where it forms part of our text study and features in
drama.
Religious Education is taught
through "here I am", a Religious Education
program devised by the Department for Catholic Education
and Formation. Here I am is an experience-based RE program.
It acknowledges parents as the child's first teachers,
and relates the child's own experiences to the life
and teachings of jesus Christ, the teachings of the
church and the relationship between faith and life.
The two aspects of knowledge
and understanding of religion and reflection on meaning
are the means by which our children develop appropriate
skills and attitudes, and that as a school we seek to
promote a free, informed and full response to God's
call in everyday life.
TEACHERS: Here I am: to teach,
to learn, to serve, to love, encourage and challenge
each child with a vision of dignity, potential and purpose.
CHILDREN: Here I am: to learn,
to enjoy and not be daunted by the challenge to grow
and develop so that i may become all that I am created
to be.
GOD PROMISES: Here I am !
During two terms of the year,
exploration of another faith is undertaken, Judaism
(Key Stage 1), and Islam (Key Stage 2).
